STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
|
As a member of this band program, it is your responsibility to conduct
yourself during activities in a manner that will enhance the reputation of the school, the Band, and your fellow classmates. All students/parents must accept the policies, guidelines, discipline, and procedures
stated in this handbook. It is the responsibility of the student/parent to read this handbook, keep up-to-date
with the band calendar, performances, and all band information sent home. |
The following information is very important. Read
Carefully!
1. Students are expected to enter the band room in an orderly manner,
and to be in their seats and quiet by the time the tardy bell rings. Students should not talk or leave their seats without
permission after the tardy bell.
2. There will be no playing of instruments at any time until instructed
to do so.
3. Students
will play only their own instrument or one assigned to them.
4. Students are required to have an instrument and mouthpiece that are
of a brand and size approved by the Director. Equipment must be maintained in good playing condition. Parents should see that
their child handles his or her instrument with care to avoid repairs. When repairs become necessary, parents should take the
instrument to the repair shop promptly. Your child will not be able to participate fully in class until his or her instrument
is repaired, and will lose valuable practice time. Instruments are to be kept
clean and well maintained.
5. Band students are expected to practice at home on a regular basis. A recommended minimum is 30 minutes per day,
4 – 5 days a week.
6. All instruments
left in the band room during the day should be placed in the proper storage room, on or under a shelf, and all latches should
be secured.
7. Reed players
are expected to have a proper reed keeper and at least 4 - 5 good reeds at all times.
8. Students are
expected to attend any rehearsals or performances that are scheduled for their group. (see After School Rehearsals and Performances section for detailed information).
9. Students who
do not make adequate progress may be transferred to a lower level band or to another elective after parent notification. Students
must usually wait for the beginning of a 9-week period to transfer.
10. There is
to be no talking during rehearsal. Students with questions should raise their hands.
11. Students
must have a pencil on their music stand at all times.
12. Students are to bring all band music and band books to class EVERY DAY. Music should never be folded or wrinkled.
Students are encouraged to mark their music when necessary, BUT ALL MARKS SHOULD BE MADE IN PENCIL ONLY.
13. COMMUNICATION
IS THE KEY TO A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE. If you or your parents have a problem or
concern about band, please let the Director know. Phone: 407.320.7705; Email:
David_Allen@scps.k12.fl.us
14. To maintain high educational and musical standards, a high
standard of conduct must be maintained. Parents and students have invested a lot of time, money, and love in the GLMS Band
program to make this an organization of which to be proud. A student who cannot conform to the rules and guidelines set forth
in this handbook will not be allowed to remain in band.
